The Second Swell Story
Everything in life deserves a second chance, a second swell that can carry you to achieve anything you set your mind towards. This world doesn’t always hand you the perfect first wave, but we believe that if you stay patient, and keep your eyes fixed on the horizon, your time will come. This philosophy is the heartbeat of Second Swell Designs, and guides our process every step of the way.
Our business didn’t start with a business plan; it began in 2021 around our kitchen table when we looked for a creative way to stay inspired as a family. As we experimented with paint together, our family’s efforts became a way for us to connect and entertain ourselves through the magic of art.
We fell in love with the fluid art process instantly. Each new technique we learned led us to discovering new ways to create art. We were constantly hunting for new surfaces to pour on; we explored everything from jewelry and coasters to serving pieces and skateboards. We loved every new discovery we made as a family, but it was when we looked toward the ocean that we found our true canvas. It all started with a broken, beaten surfboard. It was the kind that most people would have discarded ages ago, its time when it surfed the waves long forgotten. Where others saw wreckage, we saw potential. We gave that board a second chance, pouring new life into it to become something priceless.
That first board led us to where we are today as fluid artists, dedicated to creating one of a kind masterpieces. While we still enjoy crafting smaller, unique pieces of art as a family, transforming retired surfboards into bold, extraordinary art is the heart of what we do.
This process stands for everything we have learned as a family. It is a mission of revival and second chances, and it extends beyond the studio. Second Swell proudly donates a portion of our proceeds to directly support those in our community. Everyone deserves a second chance, and we are dedicated to helping homeless youth and families reach their goals and aspirations. This commitment is what continues to lead us to making art.
